Same thing happened to me last week. It's not quite six inches cracked, I'd say it was about 2 1/2. Local glass repairman came by and injected it with sealant. Crack is gone but you can still see the two indents where the rock hit. Sux because the car was recently purchased a month ago. Guy said he could replace the whole windshield with an aftermarket one for $200 plus tax. I'm still debating on whether to do it or not. Til then, every time I get in my car it's gonna bug the s#%t out of me cuz it's in my line if sight. I too am bamboozled by this. Oh, by the way, original windshield goes for $1000 from Nissan.
