the knock sensors would compensate for the lower octane fuel by retarding the timing. Or you can always put in a bottle of octane booster.

The other day I accidentally hit the 87 octane button because the crazy gas station I regular decided to swap out their pumps and the buttons are in reverse order now. I put about 2 gallons in before I noticed the price was much cheaper than expected and I immediately stopped pumping.
I have burned those 2 gallons off by now, and if nothing else, your story has given me comfort that I didn't just fsck up my engine  So thanks for that
