late update: friend has the uprev cable but it's tied to his totaled z which he no longer owns. we emailed uprev and they said the only way to go about this is to buy another license. f that.
so.., i went to back to doing it the way i've been doing it the past few years.
1. clear the code
2. drive like a grandma for ~80-120 miles of mixed traffic. best to save it for a day you're going on a short trip.
3. roll off easy from stops, and don't go past 3k rpm
4. shut off the car to let it reset itself.
5. presto. obd2 shows it's all ready. if not, go for another short drive, shut it down, and it should be ready the next time you start up.
6. inspection passed
