That is the driveshaft. If you disconnect it from the diff, it will move forward as it is supposed to do, into the transmission. Just make sure you put the carrier bearing back in correctly. If it has spacers between it and the body mount, make sure you put them back in that way. This will keep the driveline angles correct. Just make sure you got the correct one. The automatic cars driveshaft may be different from the manual transmission cars.
