I spent a year in Australia after college. The official highways in a great deal of Australia are not a lot better than the roads in the last episode. Going from point A to point B over some long distance almost always involves leaving paved roads (sealed as they call them) and caking every inch (centimeter as they call them) of your car in dirt.

Here we have crumbling roads because nobody's paying to maintain them. In Australia they have a lot of roads that aren't even paved yet, but the ones that are look fantastic. Apparently the only people who generally travel from coast to coast via road are "pensioners" (we call them retirees) on caravan (road trip) and they do so using trucks, so there's not a huge rush to pave things.

That poor GT-R is out of its element for sure; yeah it's got AWD, but for an entirely different reason
