You don't run it rich across the entire map, you only tune it rich and retard ignition when the throttle is closed at high revs Fuel is generally injected for a second or so before it is cut when you lift off, that's when the popping and banging can happen. And guess how much tuners here in Dubai charge to do that and make it seem like they invented a new ECU just to do that for you.

PS: Running rich (within reason) doesn't melt anything. It's running too lean that you want to avoid because that's when EGT's sky rocket and valves start melting on a boosted car especially. You actually tune a boosted car rich to cool down combustion temps.
