So I was kind of right. My slow 4th to 5th up shift means the car stays in neutral longer than it should and that causes RPM to drop. So when I do get into 5th the SRM will automatically rev to be in the right RPM for 5th.
What's weird is that it doesn't do this in other gear upshifts even if I purposely go slow
