Electrical/ECU/timing... I'd groom it completely first and then see what gives. I would look on the intake side first.

I agree. What he is describing I had a couple of times in my last Z which was also a 2009. I'd hit the gas (dd not track), and it would spudder. Reminded me of and old car like there wasn't enough gas going to the carburetor or water in the gas. It was like the VDC was kicking in, but affecting the engine. Hopefully that makes sense. Maybe we could go to the hobby shop on the base and do an inspection. (I need to change my oil anyway)
