Look for a warped flange, holes in the piping(you can usually spot them by carbon traces that surround the hole), dings in the piping and cracks at the welds. The exhaust itself can never really go bad as it's just a pipe with sound deadening material in the muffler. It's usually cracks in the welds and dings that I look for. Other than that, you're good to go. And ask if there were any fitment issues when he had it installed, just because its the same car doesn't mean it will fit exactly and it might have been slightly changed to fit and you may have to change it back to fit yours but I doubt it.
