As long as you use a microfiber to rub it, I think you'll be fine. I did use a terry cloth towel on my armrest and noticed that it would wear. Since switching to microfiber, I have not seen any wearing.

edit: you could also use a brush to work in the solution, then wipe w/ a clean microfiber.
