While the 7AT certainly isn't hard to drive in manual mode if your In the wrong gear it will feel slow. The lag when in auto is usually the tranny shifting from 7th to say 2nd. It's definitely not a perfect design but once you get used to where the Z's power is and what gear is right for what you need it's great. Also in manual mode the shifts aren't meant to be smooth it's supposed to have quick aggressive shifts.
