This keeps his hand eye coordination and as you said other motor skills a bit of a work out.

mustve been scary for him and entire family. glad to hear he's doing better and getting back into model making
when i was in japan a few months back, i went to this hobby store where they had hugegangeous battleship models on display. they were the wooden ones too, built from scratch. thing was at least 8-9ft long
