Maybe a simple question...
Without replacing the viscous type with a decent mechanical 1.5way centre, is it possible to change the fluid to make the diff stiffer and more resilient to overheating, slipping?

Thats a problem with VLSD's in general, once they heat up, it becomes an open diff. Which is why time attackers and drifters use gear LSD's, I've heard nothing but great things about the carbonetic ones, which is the one I plan on adding once I get my tax return
You can change the silicone all day long and it wont make a difference, for every day driving, the VLSD is ok, but for sustained abuse, switch it out.
