Organisers often direct people where and how to park (so it may not be the owners choice), and people will tend to take up more space in order to allow the public more room to view their vehicles. There is usually more people walking around vehicles then under normal parking scenarios, so more space is required to 1) allow the audience a better look at the vehicle and 2) to insure cars don't get scratched.

Just my opinion. I have know to be wrong.
