Responding here in case anyone stumbles onto this thread searching for the same issue.

I went back to the audio shop today and was pleasantly surprised when the guy came back in 15 minutes, said he did an airbag reset procedure and voila'. He had paid no attention to whether the flashing seatbelt light in the tach had been fixed at the same time, but when we checked, it had.

I didn't ask what reset procedure he performed, but it must be some airbag reset procedure that I couldn't find in my search here since the only one I could find was for a flashing light while mine was a continual light. And it must be fairly standard either for Z's or for some other models as he acted like it was fairly routine.

Edit: Incidentally, the Dynamatting makes a noticeable difference. I no longer have to constantly fiddle with the radio volume as my speed or road conditions change. I can also hear my (stock) exhaust much better.

Now I'm at least not worried that upgrading my audio system will be a waste of money due to excessive road noise.
