I don't think the stock boxes setup suffers from lack of air.
The stock boxes are more than adequate so just doing the less restrictive drop ins along with post maf tubes to straighten the air? is all you're going to need unless of course you spend some money on a cai.
If you still feel you want to cut up your boxes for no real gains? By all means do its your car.
