Made a CD/playlist (swapped out the head unit early on) when I first got the Z called "First Drive" for just this sort of thing. That particular playlist has artists ranging from Joe Bonamassa, Blues Traveler, Black Crowes, over to Phil Collins, REM, Lorde.
Other artists I favor in the car are Anders Osborne, Krewella, ZZ Top, Clapton, Billy Joel... My iTunes collection is almost too big. Hard to settle on something to listen to.
