You may want to get a second opinion on that.
AC condensers get hit by small stones all the time, that's just part of the risk of beings mounted where they are. Typically it just bends a few fins; it sucks but it usually doesn't kill it. Unless that one small stone hit some catastrophic failure point, which would mean that you were doomed anyway, I don't see how it could be the cause.
You could always take it to an AC certified repair shop. I'm sure they could tell you what the deal is most likely to be.
