That's usually only because they make new brands just for those cars, such as Corvette. I actually had to laugh to myself when I found out that Dodge doesn't make trucks anymore, they have a new brand for those, called...wait for it...Ram.
I also honestly have to laugh at any company proclaiming that they would be "picky" about who buys their vehicles. Reading the article about Lexus doing that with the LFA, their requirements seem to be more along the lines of "we want to make sure that these cars are driving around in the right areas so that they can be rolling advertisements to more people who could buy them." In short, if you have the money and live in Beverly Hills, you're good. If you have the money and prefer to live in Radcliffe, KY, they'd prefer you buy something else. It's all snob factor, which is proven to sell cars, though typically only to idiots that need the snob factor.
