Default Using headunit rear amp channel

Hi folks.
I've upgraded my headunit and put in some MTX 6.5" cheap component speakers which don't have a separate crossover/filter box. The speakers have a cap and inductor for passive filtering. Right now I've got them running using the stock base speaker wiring (which I assume is running them in parallel). So my 17w RMS per channel is probably getting halfed to the woofer and tweeter.

Wouldn't they sound much better if I ran the woofers off the rear channel and the tweets off the front channel? Car audio is only stereo anyway. I could then have 17w going to each speaker and use the fader to dial back the tweets from overpowering the woofers sound level wise. Any issues doing this? Thanks for any input or advice.
