It will take about 2 years to get their money back on the design change on the new stuff. Also, I think they are testing the waters too with the design changes.

When all is said and done, Nissan is still a corporation that's out to make profit. If this avenue becomes a massive success to pull in cash, then they'll beat that cow until it's a fine red mist. However I don't think the new look will be all that successful. The 370Z was already a beautiful car, and I'm sure we can all agree it's not just the car's appearance that's causing dismal sales. It might boost sales up because of the renewed interest and there being an automatic NISMO, but I'm thinking the 370Z market is already oversaturated. Most everyone who wants one, already does. I'm willing to guess that most of the 2015 NISMO buyers will be people who trade in an older Z for it.
It also doesn't help that the casual driver doesn't know the difference between the 350 and 370... thus in their mind, this car has been around for 12 years.
The new Mustang, Stingray and FR-S are all my coworkers like to talk about right now. They respect the Z, but are still waiting for the next generation before getting serious about it. It doesn't matter if she's gonna be a 400+ HP to challenge the American muscle cars or goes below the 300 HP range to battle it out with the Toyobaru twins... they just wanna see a totally new Z. Everyone knows the 2015 NISMO is just a new shell. Cheaper to just bodykit an old Z than buy a new one for just the shell.
In any case, as an earlier poster pointed out, the team that designed the 2015 NISMO look, is highly unlikely to be the same team designing the next generation Z. This is just a diversion to give Nissan another year to finish whatever they need to finish.
