I had an 2005 RX8 and loved it but you just have to understand they are different cars. The one thing not mentioned though is the rotary falls to pieces. I had a collaped cat, ignition coils, O2 sensor, engine mounts and spark plugs all go within 35000 kms. All mazda service could say was, "yeah, we have a lot of problems with these"
You really have to push the RX8 to get anything out of it but when you do it's great fun.
