Default 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster - November 2009 Car of the Month

Let’s get right to it!

No cruising down Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) comments with the sun basking in my face and my hair blowing in the wind. That would be the easy way to describe the 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster. I think I have probably read that same story line before on just about every convertible to have ever hit the market. This one's going to be a little bit different.

I first saw the 370Z Coupe when Nissan debuted it at the 2009 LA Auto Show. You couldn’t help but be drawn to the new, more aggressive styling. Nissan shorted the overall length, but widened out the haunches to give this car a much stronger and pure performance stance. The previous 350Z was a great looking car, but seemed to blend in among the crowd of convertibles. I won’t say it was boring, but it didn’t really move me. So, when Nissan asked us to test drive the all-new 2010 370Z Roadster, we took this as an opportunity to put the car through its paces and to see if the new aggressive exterior design would be matched by superior performance.

The verdict?
The 2010 Nissan 370Z is the World’s Most Complete Roadster – Bar None!

The one word that comes to mind to describe this car is – awesome! The 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster is simply in a class of its own combining the very best in performance attributes both under the hood and in the interior. The NADAguides.com team selected the Nissan 370Z Roadster its Car of the Month after testing other cars in the competitive class and found the 370Z Roadster simply pulled away from the pack. We tried very hard to find something that we didn’t like about this car and it was one of the first times in doing a vehicle review, we were left without a knock. Congratulations to Nissan for a car well built and a job well done!

There are very few cars that really get your adrenaline pumping like the Nissan 370Z Roadster. What makes this car such a standout is the exhilarating feeling you get when you press down on the gas pedal and to then hear the roar of the exhaust makes you want to drive the car faster and faster. But, it’s not only the performance that makes this 370Z Roadster our Car of the Month; it’s the attention to detail on the interior. Nissan’s design team did a magnificent job in engineering a classy interior that has the right amount of sportiness, combined with creature comforts you’d expect to see in a higher priced convertible.

The interior of the 370Z Roadster is highlighted by suede door panel inserts and leather attributes from a leather-wrapped dashboard and steering wheel to the soft and supple heating and cooling leather seats. The instrument cluster is one feature that really gives the driver a sense of exciting performance. All of the dash gauges point directly towards the driver and are illuminated for clear visibility. The steering wheel is clutter free and has the right number of buttons and switches designed for ease of use. Touch screen navigation is optional and comes with real-time traffic. The Surround Sound System by Bose cranks out the tunes with eight speakers and also integrates Sirius Satellite Radio and an iPod/MP3 Media Interface. The Bluetooth offers clear and easy hands-free phone use as well.

Under the hood of the 370Z Roadster, the 3.7-liter, V6 picks up 26 horsepower and 2 lb-ft of torque (332 horsepower @ 7,000 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque @ 5,200 rpm, compared with the previous 3.5-liter V6’s 306 horsepower @ 6,800 rpm and 268 lb-ft of toque @ 4,800 rpm found in the previous 350Z Convertible. The absolute best feature on the 370Z Roadster is the 6-speed manual transmission with Nissan’s SynchroRev Match™, which as Nissan explains; “it allows drivers of any skill level to experience professional-like gear shift performance. The SynchroRev Match™ function automatically controls and adjusts engine speed when shifting to the exact speed of the next gear position, essentially “blipping” the throttle to smooth out any up/down shifts.” The manual transmission with SynchoRev Match is part of the Sport package and a 7-speed automatic with downshift rev matching is also available. I won’t lie to you as well, I believe I am a better than average driver and have worked to match my revs with my downshift, but this computer-aided system really works and makes any driver seem like a pro.

The standard 370Z Roadster wheel and tire package features 18x8.0-inch front/18x9.0-inch lightweight aluminum-alloy wheels with P225/50R18 front/P245/45R18 rear Bridgestone Potenza RE050A summer tires. Available as part of the optional Sport Package are 19-inch RAYS forged lightweight aluminum-alloy wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A P245/40R19 front/P275/35R19 tires.

The Nissan 370Z Roadster’s starting price is $36,970 for the base model. The Touring Sport package starts at $43,320 and comes complete with Nissan sport brakes, SynchroRev Match™ (manual transmission), viscous limited-slip rear differential, 19" RAYSŪ super-lightweight forged alloy wheels, Bluetooth, Bose eight speaker audio system and Sirius Satellite radio with iPod/MP3 connectivity.
