Not one for necro bumping threads but just thought I'd share what I ended up going with or more to the point, built/programmed. Current version only does GPS (position & speed) and 3 axis accelerometer data but with with a few more parts it'll be able to grab OBDII data also. This is only the "beta" version and I haven't had a chance to build a interface yet so it still looks rather rough but it does function.

Please ignore the dirty table it's sitting on.
