I would venture to guess that since the RE050A is also made by Bridgestone, it would have similar handling characteristics to the S-04. That's probably why you didn't notice any difference.

The Nismo comes with Yokohama Advans as the OEM tire and it gives a much different steering feel. The grip is still there with S-04s, but the steering response is slower.
