Default Backup Camera with Active/Dynamic Guidelines Project - 09 370Z

It seems like a bunch of goodies came out after the 09 model of the 370Z. In addition to my last project:
2009 370Z IPOD -> A2DP Bluetooth Unit

I have decided to try to add a rear view camera system to my Z. I know that it is already possible with the use of the NavTool system to add a factory comparible backup camera system for the 09 models, but I wanted to take it one step further and implement active guidelines as well.

Our cars already have a steering wheel angle sensor. My plan is to hack the CAN bus and parse this information in a small system that would be placed inline with a standard RCA backup camera feed. It would create a video overlay that would illustrate the backup track given the angle of the steering wheel.

Something like:

Has anything like this been attempted? Or am I wandering into uncharted territory here?
