Excellent point. The term in the Texas Transportation Code is "unattended". I do not know if there is a definition for that. You might have an argument that you did not leave your vehicle unattended if you didn't walk too far from it.

*edit* I found records of police ticketing people at airports for an unattended vehicle when getting out to load luggage for a passenger they are picking up. I would never think to turn off my vehicle when doing that. How about tow truck drivers that leave their vehicle running for power while they winch a vehicle? Guess I'll have to be more mindful of this going forward.
