Picture sums up my day:
Came home from the gym at 11PM and decided to watch a movie on Netflix since I did not have work. Security guard knocks on my door at 3AM and asked if I had taken off my wheels, I replied no, and he said well your grey "Mazda" is sitting on bricks. I ran out to a ugly sight.
Security guard went to call the police and I called my insurance to file a claim. Officer surprising arrived quick and was very pleasant. The office asked me how much would it probably cost to replace but I didn't know the ballpark price of the wheels from the dealer so I just said I don't know but probably expensive since they are forged. His eyes got big and he said...lets just put down $5000 then. Guess he knew a bit about cars. The funny thing was that the security guard (african american) said he was surprised they stole the wheels off my car and not the one right across from me...a old Impala with 22-24" chrome wheels
FYI I had the factory wheel locks. It looks like they were able to jam something around it to take it off. Took them less than 30 minutes cause the guard does rounds every 30-45 minutes.
I called the dealer to get a price quote on all four rims, tires, and tpms sensors. I heard "wow" at the other end of the phone when the rep saw the price. Get this...$5800 pre-tax and $6300 after tax!!!
I finally got hold of my claims representative and apparently she had been reviewing the case to look for fraud. She said there were some red flags being that it was a good area and gated complex with armed guards that does rounds so often. She even said "doesn't it seem suspicious"...I was like wtf...am I being interrogated? She drilled me with a few more questions and I said "Look, it could be suspicious to you but all I know is that my wheels are missing and I have no transportation to work, you're asking the wrong person for information."
In the end, she called me back after speaking with the head security and said everything seems to be cleared up. There was a car that came through around that time and when they ran the plate it didn't match the car.
So she gave me the options of either taking it to whichever shop I want or to their progressive center where they'll order the factory parts by the vin number.
Is it common for them to cut a check out to me if I ask? I could get a lot of wheel and some change with $6k...
