If I put the fob in the fobgina while I'm driving, I get the chirp only if I turn the car off and open the door without removing the fob. The only time it chirps like that is if I leave the car running and step more than a few feet away from the car with the fob in my pocket.

Hopefully, the dealership isn't too far. I would go back and make them prove to you that another Z on their lot does it, too. I'm assuming the recent service was not related to this issue.
Thanks for the input. I'm glad to know I'm not completely going crazy.... the dealership was pretty adamant so I was starting to question myself. I've never walked away from the car with the fob in my pocket while it was still running so I wasn't sure if this was the same warning chirp for that or not.

I just called my brother and he says his Z doesn't do it either. The dealership is about a 40 minute ride due to traffic, so it's not crazy far but it's not right around the corner either. And honestly this isn't the end of the world but it is annoying....if I hadn't already been in for inspection, oil change, and 30,000 mile service I probably would have held off on fixing it until it was more convenient. OTOH now that I've had them check it out and know that it isn't right I'm determined to get it fixed.

Maybe I'll just take an extra trip and head to a larger dealer. Fred Bean's Nissan isn't all that much further of a drive for me.
