The Hound
( Click to show/hide )
The Hound was one of the better characters in the books he made his presence actually felt, and he even gets a character arc! Not bad for someone who doesn't appear as a main character. I was absolutely pissed when he was killed. But at least he got a sort of epilogue later. I'm super interested in what the show may do, since clearly he skirted the fatal wounds in the inn. And he's so perfectly cast, it would be hard to waste that. In the books, he wasn't quite the confrontational jerk, but rather drunk and hungry in the inn. This is sort of illustrating some of the shakiness in some of Martin's characters personalities when he wrote them...they don't always seem very thought-out, but more of a "I'm going to write this and see where it goes stream of thought."

Arya
( Click to show/hide )
I love the Arya from the books and from the show, but sadly they are different. Their kills are in different spots and with different motivations and reactions. It's really bizarre how she's been changed between the two. But I do like it; it adds some nuance to her.
re: hound
( Click to show/hide )
Since he died "off screen/stage" in the books, there's a fan theory that he isn't actually dead. IIRC the only way we know he is dead is from a conversation Brienne had with the priest/maester (can't recall exactly) who tended to him as he died and buried him. The priest/maester then left his hound helmet on top of the grave, and it was stolen. Then rumors of the "hound" (someone wearing the hound's helmet) raping/pillaging are brought to kings landing. Obviously, this is due to whoever stole the helmet. However, the theory is that the priest/maester was actually talking about the death of the "hound" personality in sandor, and he is really still alive and acting as his own man now. when we first meet the hound he is best known for being the younger brother to gregor/the mountain, and unquestioningly loyal to the crown (robert/joffrey). so the hope is he shows up again later as a changed man, thus completing his character arc from thug/enforcer to true knight (which is ironic since he hates knights).
