Price fixing describes this practice better.
Anyway, local news media predict if the price will increase/decrease every week on the day before the price is fixed. It's funny as hell to watch the lineups at the pumps when gas is predicted to jump say 2 cents a liter. Maybe a $1 savings that you just burnt off idling in the lineup. Budgeting gas for a sports car? Priceless.
