Wow, I think that proves a strap wrench is the tool of choice. Odds are you're gonna damage the OEM knob but we're all on here because we like to make changes to our Z's. After driving the car to hockey last night with the new knob I will say it makes a huge difference in shifting. It feels more natural, easy and like others have said you can kind of feel where the knob needs to go, no pun intended.
