The 7AT that I drove was fairly nice. Under hard acceleration, the shifts are quick and sharp - 0.5 sec shifts - manually commanded or automatic. This could be interpreted as harsh. In normal driving, it was pretty smooth. I imagine if the shift occurred in a hard corner under brisk acceleration it would upset the car's balance. I chose the manual because I wanted a bit more control - but I could live with the 7AT and the paddles no problem. My 2 cents...
