have you looked at the car itself? smell fishy inside? or lots of air freshener use? mightve beeen flooded if that's the case.

not sure if you're a smoker or not, but i HATE the stench it leaves behind. i'd verify that.
back in the pre-90's airlines smelled like shittt. smoke + coffee smell =
