Location aside, the big reason for the high HP rating is the option of a 67mm (935HP as rated by manufacturer) turbo with a large
T4 turbine.
It is simply crucial to have a large T4 turbine on these engines, and the test result I did last year have confirmed this. IMO anything smaller than a true T4with large A/R ratio, will generate excessive exhaust back pressure (exhaust pressure between heads and turbine inlet), greatly reducing efficiency and high HP potential. The turbine becomes a huge choke point if not sized properly, and the power will simply dive. Any time you see a dyno graph where TQ is lower than max HP (or if the two are even getting close), it is a good indicator that the turbine has reached its maximum flow limit.
Remember, all that air the compressor pushes out is mixed with fuel and ignited....all this has to go through the turbine housing.
