There are many people who just buy a radar detector and it serves them well for years but if you read up, these idiots compare one radar detector with another, buy the latest that comes out, drive with two detectors hooked up and then say one is better for this or that.

I have the max and it works quite well. before it, I had another one, an old Whistler that served me well enough for years. Unless every time you get on the street you speed and also have a bit of paranoia about you, any decent radar and a good pair of eyes along with some info on where cops generally hang out (overpasses, medians,ramps etc.) and you will be fine.
