I am having the same issue. I notice though if I wait after I hit the button to open the hatch it will not open. If I hit the button and then IMMEDIATELY open the hatch, it will open. so I am not going to bother to eat any cost or put my two cents in (to fixing my hatch by the penny trick)
and if the hatch decides to be a douche and never open again, I am pretty flexible and can reach for stuff
