I agree on the top down thing. Very few convertibles really look good with the top up anyway. I live in OH though and even though I am seriously considering parking the car in a barn for December-March, I have to be realistic that the top will be up a lot.
Amusingly, my bad weather car is also a convertible though.
I used to park my Jeep with the top off very regularly and it has been rained in several times. Jeeps are made to be rained in and even the stereo seems to be pretty resilient to getting wet. I have a feeling that if it ever rained in my Saab with the top down, I would have to replace a lot of electronics. If I buy a brand new $35-40k sports car I am going to be damn sure that it doesn't get rained in.

Yes...they physical cars exist and while I don't have first-hand knowledge, I am sure there are several in the country right now; both here (in Nashville area) and Arizona. However, it is highly doubtful that anyone will see on on the street without a good bit of camo and if some tech were do make that mistake, they likely wouldn't be a Nissan tech for very long.
I try not to drive any of my Zs in bad weather; at least not if I can avoid it and I never liked my ZR with the top up. However, I really didn't worry about it much...very few 'verts truly look good with the top up.
I'm considering a G37 convertible since it's a hard-top - best of both worlds.
