I've been a bit concerned about possibly damaging something, though I've only applied as much force as seemed needed to break the window loose. Not much of an excuse, but it's the best I have.

I've been looking for something to prevent the icing. I'm avoiding conventional deicers, since most of them seem to be based on chemicals I'm not sure I want to put on my car.

I read one suggestion that I like. RainX is, I believe, silicone based. I use it to treat my windshield, and when used carefully (I don't like to get it on the paint) it works well. I intend to try spraying RainX on the window immediately above the seal and running the window up and down a few times.
