Yeah I use the K&N filter as well, but I use HP-1010. It's the same basic size, but a longer can (more filter media area). Even with a sandwich plate adapter for an oil cooler, it still fits on the car. These things sometimes change over time, so you never know if my info is out of date, but last I heard over on the bitog forums, the K&N filters are just rebranded Mobil1 filters, and both are very good quality filters. I like the K&N out of the two because it has a 1-inch sheet metal nut on the end. If you buy a simple 1-inch open wrench, it makes removing the filter a breeze.

...Various Mobil-1 oil posts...
M1 is definitely a high-quality motor oil. I don't use it myself in my track car, but I wouldn't hesitate to do so if my top choice was unavailable (I use Motul 300V, but for various reasons I'm not sure I'd recommend that oil for a daily driver, either - it's pricey and it goes bad from absorbing water faster, supposedly). I also find it hard to believe that the viscosity difference between a 0wX and 5wX oil would make any difference in any kind of leaking or burning of oil in any reasonable scenario (but who knows, I guess?). The only other thing I can remember to say about M1 is that the "Extended Performance" really is a better-quality variant than the normal stuff, I'd use it whether or not I was doing long drain intervals, on an engine you care about.
