My Porsche had a fire extinguisher in a box under the passenger seat. I have seen cars with the familiar red cylinders on A frame pillars and also mounted high between the seats. Is this for looks, like carrying around Magnum condoms you may never use?
The only car fire I ever had was in a 1966 VW Bug that had sat all summer and the hoses dried out. After driving for about 30 seconds I lost all power and fuel was spewing over the engine behind me. So what did I do? I coasted the car into the closest service station. Not one of my better moves.
Anyway the melted parts cost about $120 to replace. Never seen a car fire since and that was 1988.
Anyone have experienced with car fires, having and mounting extinguishers, or actually using them?
