I believe the slow return to idle is to make the car easier to drive, and shift, as well it's easier on the drivetrian. I'm just annoyed with the lag in the 2000rmp to 3000rmps, I really want that to go away.

I'm running the South Bend 19lb steel flywheel, with their 3rd stage clutch and pressure plate. There was a little bit of improvement on the return to idle lag, though I do get some of the trans gear rattle while under load low rpms, and a slight rattle just off idle when reving the engine. They say it's completely normal with single mass flywheel, but I don't think it's loud or annoying, and it goes away durning normal driving rpms. I've also heard something about it's important which trans oil you use, and that there are a couple that help with that noise, also I'm sure aluminum flywheels would make a fair bit more noise though.
