They make a whole back story on how they're you're neighbor, and that they're part of an organization that needs funding for a trip. To get funding, they try to sell multi year magazine subscriptions at top dollar using the sketchiest sales tactics. Once you give them a check, they take it to their pimps who change the amount and name on the checks, or steal bank account information if paid via credit card, or just run away with your cash. They return to their pimps and give the money/info they collected in return for drugs, not to mention they also are involved in sexual extortion with their superiors. It's similar to gypsies with a hint of human trafficing and a lot of financial fraud.
You can tell I've done a lot of research after getting scammed back in the day, and I'm just happy justice has been served.
