I know they will level out eventually and hold, but the question is at what point will the prices level out. It's not helping that the used/new markets getting flooded with other sporty coupe competitors.
It's not complete chaos though, at least the Z will never suffer the fate of a used mustang... The 11' mustang GT's retailed for 30k, now they are down to sub 20 range.
To sum it all up it's basically not possible to win at this game unless you are buying an F40/F50, or had a mint s2000/nsx example (in that case the value actually appreciated), it's just finding that perfect line if you aren't planning to keep the car forever, there is a good time to unload and a bad time.
I think the S2k, late model Supra's and even the late model 300ZX are great examples. Though they held their value mostly because they ceased production, I think the 370Z will share the same fate. Sooner or later, it will be harder and harder to find one in great condition that hasn't been abused. The price of an 09 may dip below $20k, but if you think about it, that's about a reasonable 40% depreciation for a car that's close to 5 years old. Compared to something like the 7 series, S-Class or A8, it's actually really, really good. Those cars depreciate like crazy....we're talking about a 60-70% depreciation in the same time span. You can probably find a 2009 7 series that once cost over $100k for around $30k.
