I don't think I'm going to drive halfway across the country even if it was a proven design and there was no charge. But that's just me. If you can find someone that is happy with the arrangement, then I wish all parties the best. Hooray for capitalism.

I understand that there are materials/fabrication costs involved and that a tune is not free - but it's just a prototype that would have to be built no matter what (ie, part of development costs) and the tune will also need to be done as part of the development process.

My main point is that rental on a 370Z (if you can find one for rent) for a week, plus the cost of renting something to drive while the car is being used as a guinea pig, is likely to be close to the cost of a prototype CAI and tune. Not to mention wear and tear from the dyno runs.

Just the opinions of Some Guy on the Intertubes. I hope you find someone that has a different POV.
