the thing about the Fit for me is that mine is a 5MT and can accelerate to 60 under 8sec. that's plenty quick for a eco-hatch.
my obc shows 30.6mpg on short surface roads trips with my spirited driving, so that's plenty for me. when i did a road trip it was up to 37mpg, nowhere near your 44+mpg, but im okay with it.
for me, i prefer the quickness vs squeezing out mpg. i really dont care about gas consumption at this level as it's regular gas and it doesn't cost that much to begin with. however, i would prefer the car had a larger tank so i dont have to fill as often.
