So some of you know I cut my 13 370z hood for a vent to let the hot air escape we all know these motors are notorious for! I cut it as far forward as possible so the air from the radiator would escape. When looking down into the vent you can see the dipstick, coolant overflow bottle and only as far back as the front of the block. The new vet does this and so does the evo. Up front is where it needs to be and I know this now!
This weekend me and the wife went down to hocking hills ohio and took only back roads that no one travels. The roads are fast, huge hills, tons of 90* turns! just like a roller coaster that never ends or what you guys out west kinda have with the canyons. In the turns I pushed it but the straightways there was no point going wot and 100+. I would do half throttle and maybe get to 80mph. Every turn though I would accelerate out hard and I tried to get the oil temps hot. We'll I was unsuccessful. It was 80* an even when we hit traffic or a stop sign and I sat I could not break 220* with the factory oil cooler and the hood vent. From the looks I never broke 218*.
From reading everyone's complaints over the years with over heating on canyon runs and city traffic, I'm sure we could all use a hood vent installed in the proper place! When in traffic it looks like a lava pit is under my vent and steam is just pouring out! So I guess it turns out I put it in the right place
I'm still going to do an oil cooler for the track but I really think I'll be ok with a 34 row which some of you can still over heat (not sure if all are vented or vented properly).
