Late last spring, I was alone, slowly driving my gleaming red Z through our residential development. A boy, about 12, was walking on the side of the street, to my right, toward me and my car. As we closed, I saw him look at me, reach into his pocket and when we were almost even, he stupidly threw an object (maybe a large eraser or a gum ball) right at my car. I stopped and backed up and said, "Hey kid, why did you throw that at my car? You might have damaged the paint." He looked scared and kept walking away. Just then, a big guy came out of a nearby house and walked briskly toward me, apparently thinking that I was trying something wrongful with this kid. He glared at me and said, "WTF's YOUR problem, fellah?" I, now on the defensive, said,"This kid just threw a stone or something at my car." He glanced quickly at my car and said, "I don't see any damage. I think I'd move along if I were you." Which is exactly what I did. Sad, stupid world out there.
