I agree, I purchased a cheap one (Cobra) and went through about 2 of them in about 3 years. The speaker would go out, rattle, etc. They are just poor quality.
I purchased a Escort 8500 X50 when I got my Z. I hard wired it and I have never been more happy.
Although I do sometimes wish I would have spent a bit more and bought the 9500ix. But none the less it still is great.
