As far as violence & shootings, I think much of it is in only certain cities. They call Chicago the capital of murder, or something like that.

As far as gun control, it should be gun control/elimination from criminals. The politicians won't go there. They also won't go into the real reason(s) why some cities have gangs & very high murder/shooting rates.

I think a fair & correct way to check that is with facts. Find 5 to 10 of the highest crime/shootings cities & check what political party runs those cities "let the chip fall where they may" p.s. I don't like any party, but some I like less than others

You must know that when you go on unemployment, you have to show someone a list of places you went to find a job. For years the same applied if you go on welfare, you had to show that you're trying to find a job. Recently that has been changed. You no longer have to look for a job if you collect welfare. 100% true! So does the Govt. want people to stay on welfare for the rest of their life? I don't get it....
My answer would be yes, and it stems from the fact that people tend to vote for what benefits themselves.. if one party is willing to give away I phones, unemployment, food stamps and other benefits at the cost of tax payers, those who do not pay into those systems or pay very little will always vote for them.. Don't get me wrong there are people who need these services and use them how they were intended to be, but unfortunately there is also an equal number of abusers in the system. If you make people dependent you can control them.. even in a "democracy" However this delves dangerously into politics which is not allowed here. I do however believe there is a correlation between the crime rate and murders, and who controls those areas.. Which in turn has a lot to do with gun laws in those areas. Not to mention the ability to defend yourself as a "law abiding" citizen in those states and cities.
